Low heat desk Lamp.
I have finally found a desk lamp that I am happy with.
I am getting on in years and when
doing fine work I need good light. I was recently fixing
an electric piano that used surface mounted chips and was using a desk
lamp based on a halogen globe when it started to melt a black plastic
shroud that was attached to the board.
On a browsing trip to Bunnings Hardware in 2006 I spied this new compact
fluorescent and instantly knew my kitchen down light and desk lamp
problems were over.

NELSON LAMPS AUSTRALIA
MELMR11ESS-11W
220-240V -50Hz
80ma PF=0.60
Non Dimmable
Screw and bayonet types available.
I had 3 down lights that had 75W globes that now have been replaced by
these 11W types.
The new globe mated with a $13 desk lamp makes a low heat reading light
that will pay for itself with saved electricity.
This type of globe
gives out very little heat and has no hot spots that could cause burns
so may be useful in children's bed or desk lamps.

Update 2013
I have replaced the compact fluorescent with a 3.6W LED globe.
